JUAN SÁNCHEZ GONZÁLEZ
Welcome!
ABOUT
I am a biology masters student at the University of Puerto Rico Río Piedras Campus . I have worked in marine restoration projects since 2014 with the NGO non profit organization Sociedad Ambiente Marino (SAM). SAM's mission and vision have always aligned with my own passions of restoring and protecting the marine environment. Currently I serve the organization as its elected vice president.
CURRENT RESEARCH AND PROJECTS
WORKING THESIS
Studying how sea grass plug arrangement and placement affect restoration time and fish aggregations. I will also investigate how the invasive seagrass Halophila stipulacea might hinder restoration efforts and try to identify viable options to mitigate the possible negative interaction.
CORAL NURSERY
Manager of Sociedad Ambiente Marino’s coral nursery station at Punta Soldado, Culebra, PR. Corals grown here supplement coral restoration efforts around the island. Volunteers are an essential part of this work. If you are interested, please contact me.
SEA GRASS RESTORATION
Working with Sociedad Ambiente Marino in a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration grant restoring 2 acres of sea grass beds in Culebra, PR.
CORAL REEF RESTORATION
Working with Sociedad Ambiente Marino in a National Fish and Wildlife grant project that is implementing 3D printed corals in coral restoration efforts.
